The gap we saw — and why we built Perigon
For decades, employees in the United States have had access to rich voluntary benefits — life insurance, critical illness, pet insurance, virtual care — all offered through their employer at group rates, and paid for themselves.
In Canada, that ecosystem barely existed. Regular Canadians were either paying retail rates for individual coverage, or going without entirely.
Marty Shaw and Elaine Yedlin — both veterans of the Canadian insurance industry — saw this gap firsthand. They also saw something else: an opportunity to support the brokers, TPAs, and insurance carriers who were eager to reach more Canadians, but lacked the platform to do it at scale.
Perigon is the result: a vendor-neutral, digital-first marketplace that brings voluntary benefits to Canadian employers and their employees — and creates real value for every partner in the ecosystem.

Elaine Yedlin

Elaine is a seasoned insurance executive with a track record of building distribution channels and digital platforms. Her experience spans group benefits, individual insurance, and fintech — and her focus is always on member outcomes.
